The Motherhood & Art ~ Study and Practice Group explores how maternal experience intersects with artistic practice, education, and institutional critique.
Following a year of conversations, drawing, mapping, watching and sharing our own work we’re continuing this academic year and welcome new voices. The group is open to students and staff interested in examining caregiving within artistic research contexts. Together we will critically and creatively think about Matricentric Feminism (a mother centred feminist politic), mother-artist initiatives, institutional accessibility, and teaching practices. We draw on Ruddick’s expanded concept of ‘mothering’—caregiving work performed by anyone, regardless of gender.
Join us monthly (or come as you can) to discuss: How can art institutions better support caregiving practitioners? What does maternal knowledge contribute to artistic research?
First meeting Thursday, September 25 at 17:00-18:30 in the WdKA Research Station (follow-up dates will be set-up with the group participants)
Maybe you are working on a project that includes related questions of intergenerational care, artists initiatives and care networks, kinship and family structures? Bring your ideas to share your interests and research with the group!
The Motherhood & Art ~ Study and Practice Group is part of Weronika Zielińska-Klein PhD project.
