The lexicon of research methods brings together methods for research in arts and design as taught and used at the WdKA. It articulates and explicates wide-ranging research practices as found in the academy, from making as research, to conceptual research and research with target groups or peers. It shows that research is far from limited to the desk or academic writing and is often being carried out without the participants realising it. When sketching, immersing yourself in an environment, observing people using a product, or just moving from one source to the other, you are already researching. To make these research practices explicit and tangible and seek reflection beyond the intuitive point, is what this lexicon helps to do.

The lexicon is not an exhaustive collection, it doesn’t present all methods out there, doesn’t even pretend to cover the most important ones. It is an open guide for inspiration and exploration, which is meant to be hacked and made your own. A collection in flux, new additions or extensions are welcomed.
